Henry packed 3 days of school lunches this week. He had a difficult time readjusting to the school lunch routine this week after a few weeks of leisurely lunches during winter break.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, he came home very hungry but with a hardly eaten lunch. In talking with him, he complained about not having enough time to eat. He had spent his lunch period talking with his friends about Christmas presents and Pokemon creatures instead of focusing on eating.
On Thursday, I put Henry's lunchbox inside his backpack instead of keeping it separate. When he got to school, he forgot to take it out of his backpack and put it in the classroom lunch bin. The teacher assumed that he had not brought lunch from home and sent him through the hot lunch line. Luckily, his school makes sure that every child receives lunch whether or not they have money on-hand. He came home excited to tell us that he had macaroni and cheese, raisins and chocolate milk for lunch. Henry asked if he could eat school food more often, so he is going to start buying a school-made lunch once per week. We sat down together with the January menu and he picked out his favorite menu option for each of the coming weeks.
On Friday, Henry insisted on retaking his packed lunch from the previous day.
